"How do you deal with siblings who you just want to yell at sometimes, but then you know that it would be wrong, but you are at the end of your rope!"

“How do you deal with siblings who you just want to yell at sometimes, but then you know that it would be wrong, but you are at the end of your rope!”

If your frustration is a result of your siblings doing something that is wrong, then you need to tell your parent(s). It is the parent’s responsibility to correct the behavior of their children. This could possibly relieve the stress that you are feeling.

However, if you are dealing with annoying behavior or other less serious matters, then remember God’s teaching about love – love covers a multitude of sins, I Peter 4:8. Love suffers long and is kind, love bears all things and endures all things, I Corinthians 13:4-7.

Finally, look for the lessons that God may want you to learn. When faced with difficult times (or people), the book of James tells us to have joy because the trying times can produce patience, James 1:2-4. It doesn’t mean that the crazy situation is joyful, but you can choose to have joy even while it’s happening, knowing that God is helping you to be more like Jesus! May the joy of the Lord be your strength, Nehemiah 8:10b!

- Lauren

What Should I Do When My Friends are Mean to Me?

"What should I do when people are mean to me? Like one of my friends interrupted me in the middle of my sentence to tell me she wasn't interested. I don't want to be mean in return. What should I say?"

“What should I do when people are mean to me? Like one of my friends interrupted me in the middle of my sentence to tell me she wasn’t interested. I don’t want to be mean in return. What should I say?”

You know, when people are mean to us it really doesn’t feel very good, AT ALL. I once had an acquaintance (we weren’t exactly the best of friends) that shared a mutual friend with me. I was under the age of 9 so I don’t exactly remember particulars, but I do remember her being rude to me and jealous of my friendship with our mutual friend.

Around that time our family had been learning in our school and Bible time how to love our enemies. We had been studying the verse from Matthew 5:44 “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;” and Proverbs 25:21-22 “If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: 22. For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.” After talking to my parents, I decided that the best way to “heap coals of fire” on her head (not in a mean way) would be to give her a gift. It wasn’t exactly what I felt like doing…I felt like being mean right back to her…but I knew it was what I should do. So one Wednesday night at church I gave her a small gift. I can’t remember if it was her birthday or “just because”. She was really surprised that I of all people would be giving her a gift and didn’t know exactly how to take it, but I could tell she was really touched by it. From then on she was nicer to me.

Just a little act of kindness sometimes will go a long way to soften a person. Pray for your friends AND enemies. “For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?” Matthew 5:46. Think of little ways to be nice to others. Maybe write a note, give a gift, say an encouraging word, give a hug or a back rub…etc.

Sometimes even when we are nice to people they are still rude in return. Be the “bigger person” and forgive them even if they never ask for your forgiveness. Yes, it does hurt when people are mean to us, but the Bible commands us to forgive others. “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:32. It is not easy to forgive, but it is something we are called to do. Just as Jesus prayed on the cross “…Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do…” (Luke 23:34). If Jesus could forgive friends who betrayed him and men who falsely accused, beat, mocked and killed him; can’t we forgive those who hurt and offend us?

What is your favorite Bible verse about friendship?

“What is your favorite Bible verse about friendship?”

My favorite verse about friendship is Proverbs 17:17a, “A friend loveth at all times.” This verse is a reminder of the kind of friend Jesus Christ is to me.

He loves me at all times. Even during my worst moments or worst days, His love for me is constant. He knows me – my failures, weaknesses, etc., yet He loves me with an unconditional love.

This fact challenges me to follow in Jesus’ steps, and show the same love to my friends. I want to love my friends at all times. It is very easy to see and focus on the shortcomings of others. But the example of love set by Jesus Christ motivates me to be patient and kind, to bear all things and endure all things.

Being this kind of friend is not always easy, but with Jesus’ help we can be a friend who loves at all times!

- Jessica

I’ve been thinking a lot about movies lately.

Most of us have been told that we have to be careful about what we watch, because it can affect you. But is that really true?

I learned a tough lesson this week and discovered that the answer is YES! 100% yes!

It all started out rather harmless enough. . . or so I thought. I had been watching some Christian movies that were clean, but they didn’t exactly follow Scripture in a few areas. For example, they changed the plot to suit the script’s needs and didn’t stick with telling the story the way God wrote it out in the Bible.

At first, I did not think it would make much difference. After all, I knew the Bible story, so no harm could be done. Right? WRONG!

Over time, I noticed that I started accepting these changes as being okay. It didn’t really make a difference, I reasoned. But then, I found myself doubting what I believed. I thought, well, maybe I just didn’t read the Bible verses right after all.

Fortunately, at this point, God convicted me that I needed to go back to see what His Word really said. After reading these passages again, I discovered that the Bible truths were the exact opposite of what Hollywood was trying to tell me was Biblical.

Girls, I want to caution you. Don’t make the same mistake I did. Know what you believe . . . and why you believe it. And most importantly, make sure that everything you think, read, watch, or listen to lines up with what God says through His Word.

A movie isn’t just a movie. It can have a much bigger impact on your life than you think.

- Aaress
